NYSE

Advanced Trading Floor Operations Center, NY, USA, 1998-1999 with asymptote Architecture, New York

Theater of Operations for the 21st Century - The virtual trading floor is the first business application of an interactive virtual architecture. Displayed on the trading floor on an array of nine large, flat-screen high-resolution displays, it allows for day-to-day monitoring as well as crisis management of all aspects of the NYSE trading floor activity. All relevant information and the daily activity of trades and transactions are mapped into this fully navigable, multi-dimensional world.

The array of large, flat-screen monitors mentioned above is a center piece of the design. The flat screens seem to float in front of an illuminated, curved, blue glass wall that is almost liquid in appearance and hover above a double curved meandering work-surface. Ribbons of text and data embedded in various surfaces capture the essence of the different "flows" that encompass the Stock Exchange trading floor.
